This course will cover the new British Wadokai variations of the Kata; Shinsei, Jurokunoand Seienchin. These Kata, as with British Wadokai’s Hakoishi-Suparinpei, are NOTsyllabus kata, but can be learnt for use in all British Wadokai competitions, to expandpersonal kata training, or just to simply increase further kata knowledge and interest.
SHINSEI KATA
‘Pure heart’, ‘new beginning’. A Kata developed by Mabuni-Kenwa and practised within numerous schools of Karate.
JUROKU-NO
‘Sixteen’. Refers to the ‘Inner Transmission 16 Forms’. Also translates as 16-points. A Kata, developed by the Karate master Mabuni-Kenwa.
SEISAN
‘Thirteen’. A Kata developed by Karate master Matsumura-Soken. Depending on the written Kanji, Seisan can be translated into numerous interpretations. However, the translation of ‘thirteen’ is the more popular.
SEI-EN-CHIN KATA
‘Calm within the storm’, ‘storm within the calm’, or calm without a storm’. Other translations include ‘control’, ‘suppress’, ‘war form’, and more commonly, ‘pull/pulling’. An Okinawan Kata, with roots from the Chinese Hsing-i system, developed by Higaonna-Kanryo and practised within numerous Karate schools. Seienchin uses techniques to grasp, tear, unbalance, sweep, and takedown, etc.
